BRICK -- Striking with lightning speed from the outset, Brick
thundered to a 23-0 victory over No. 3 Toms River North last night in a
Shore Conference American Division game at Keller Memorial Field.
Two of the first four plays for Brick (3-1, 3-1) went for touchdowns and
six of the Dragons' first seven plays amassed 167 yards of offense.
Tim Price, who rushed for 148 yards in the first half, scored on an
11-yard just 1:23 into the contest.
On the first play of its next possession, Brick quarterback Bryan
Morgan fired a 39-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Justin Worman.
Before the half was over, Billy Wolfe kicked a 27-yard field goal,
and Gary Bell capped a 99-yard, eight-minute march with a 1-yard TD.
Toms Rive North (2-2, 2-2) was led by Jay Gold, who rushed for 120
yards.
"We were looking all over for you," Brick coach Warren Wolf
told Gold after the game.
"You didn't have to tell me," said Gold. "I was
getting hit a lot."
Wolf said he thought his team played well.
"We got off to a good start tonight, I thought our execution was
a little bit better (than it has been)," he said.
Price, who finished with 151 yards, left the game early in the third
quarter after suffering a leg injury which Wolf said he hoped was not
serious.
The closest Toms River North came to scoring was in the first
quarter, when the Mariners drove deep into Brick territory, but Gold was
tackled at the 14-yard-line, one yard short of a first down.
A third-quarter 80-yard punt return by Toms River North Matt Kocak
was wiped out by a clipping penalty.
"I guess their key was to stop me," Gold said. "We
came out flat today, and we've got to bounce back next week."
