HOLMDEL -- Dan Temple took a knee with 14 seconds remaining last night
at St. John Vianney High School and pandemonium broke loose on the
Pinelands Regional High School sideline.
The Wildcats, 0-9 entering the game, had ended the season in style with a
wild 30-28 victory over the Lancers in a non-divisional game.
"It feels like we had a winning season," said senior tailback
Louis Brofsky, who scored two touchdowns. "We realized that most of
us won't be playing football ever again. We really wanted to savor our
last game and get everything out of football we could."
Brofsky, who had put the Wildcats ahead 17-14 with an 86-yard kickoff
return for a touchdown with 1:41 left in the third quarter, put his team
ahead for good with an 18-yard TD run on an option play with 9:15
remaining.
Two series later, sophomore flanker Chris Murray increased Pinelands'
lead to 30-21 when he outfought a defender for a Dan Temple pass on the
left side and raced down the sidelines for a 69-yard touchdown pass. That
enabled the Wildcats to offset a 9-yard run scoring run by A.J. Montanez
with 1:33 left.
It was Murray's second TD of the night. Early in the third period, he
hauled in an 8-yard pass from Temple.
"We all thought if everyone pulled together, this was going to be
the night," Brofsky said. |
